A one night stand far from home turns into a sexual nightmare. As the filmmaker unravels her experience, she decides to confront her attacker.
Coming of age in New York City, a product of feminism and MTV, filmmaker, Nancy Schwartzman was a liberated, promiscuous sexual woman. Certainly not a 'perfect victim' she is left with no recourse when a one night stand goes horribly wrong.
The first film of its kind where a woman confronts her attacker on camera, THE LINE takes the filmmaker’s own experience as the point of departure to examine sexual boundaries and consent in today's world. How do we negotiate our boundaries as liberated women? How are we desensitized to sexual violence?
Told in a compelling personal voice, and with a daring visual style, the filmmaker unravels her experience and the context in which it happened. The film includes a range of perspectives from lawyers, educators, prostitutes, college students, and survivors. The film enables the audience, especially men, to examine their own behavior and attitudes, without feeling judged. THE LINE explores the intersection of sexual identity, power and violence, and the elusive line of consent.
